• But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Tithing Before the Law of Moses

• [The priest of God Most High] met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. —Hebrews 7:1-2

Tithing Continued in the Law of Moses

• A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD….The entire tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the LORD. —Leviticus 27:30,32

Tithing Affirmed by the Prophets

• “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the LORD Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty. —Malachi 3:10-12

Tithing Validated by Jesus

• Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—…. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. —Matthew 23:23
• Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your…garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.—Luke 11:42

• Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet itstores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. —Proverbs 6:6-8

• In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. —Proverbs 21:20

• Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. —Proverbs 13:11

• Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field.
